Annual Student Exhibition Opens at Oliver Art Center

Frankfort.
Elizabeth Lane Oliver Center for the Arts’ Regional Student Exhibition is an annual favorite in the community. High School works are juried by special guest artists for display in the Beck Gallery, and area elementary and middle school works are accepted for display in the Borwell and Entrance Galleries.

Last year saw the exhibition’s highest number of participants from area schools including Frankfort-Elberta, Benzie Central, Interlochen, Mesick, and Traverse City. Over 200 pieces were on display and last year’s jurors were thoroughly impressed with the level of excellence. 150 pieces were on display from area Elementary and Middle School students. ‘The exhibition is a great way to get students and the community involved in the Art Center and has been a favorite exhibition for years. We are looking forward to seeing the fantastic art being submitted this year,’ said Mercedes Michalowski, Executive Director.

Jurors for this year are Dewey Blocksma, an artist from Beulah, MI whose work is included in many collections including the University of Michigan Museum of Art, the Dennos Museum,
the Time-Life Collection of Detroit, and the Johnson Toy Collection of NYC and Troy Deshano, an artist, designer, and illustrator from Traverse City.

Certificates of Excellence will be presented during the Exhibition Opening on Friday, April 15 from 5pm-7pm. The Exhibition runs from April 15 until May 14.
