The bridge sits next to Riverside Canoe Trips, a popular canoe, kayak, and tube livery for summertime floats down the Platte.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/betsiecurrent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/100_07841.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-457 alignright\" alt=\"Platte River M22 Bridge Riverside Canoe Trips Benzie County construction MDOT Michigan Department of Transportation Tom Mountz Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore\" src=\"http:\/\/betsiecurrent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/100_07841-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/betsiecurrent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/100_07841-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/betsiecurrent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/100_07841-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/betsiecurrent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/100_07841-700x933.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re all very concerned that they\u2019re going to keep traffic moving and keep congestion down,\u201d Kyle Orr, owner of Riverside Canoe Trips, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.record-eagle.com\/local\/x1196443819\/MDOT-to-hold-Platte-River-bridge-meeting\">told the <em>Traverse City Record Eagle<\/em> last month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>MDOT is working on one road lane at a time, leaving the other open to traffic. Construction is expected to last until September.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019ll be a brand new bridge,\u201d David Pax, assistant construction engineer at MDOT who is working on the project, told the <em>Record-Eagle<\/em>. \u201cThe overall effect will be there will not be any bridge supporting structure, or no piers, in the river, so it will effectively open the flow area of the river up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/betsiecurrent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/100_07851.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-458 alignleft\" alt=\"Platte River M22 Bridge Riverside Canoe Trips Benzie County construction MDOT Michigan Department of Transportation Tom Mountz Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore\" src=\"http:\/\/betsiecurrent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/100_07851-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/betsiecurrent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/100_07851-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/betsiecurrent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/100_07851-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/betsiecurrent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/100_07851-700x525.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an important area.
