Performers to Celebrate the Legacy of Pete Seeger at Mills Community House

Regional folk musicians and environmental advocates have teamed together to present a concert celebrating the stories and songs of legendary folk singer and activist Pete Seeger.

The concert entitled Well May the World Go, will take place on Sunday, March 23 at 4 pm. The Mills Community House is located at 891 Michigan Ave. (US 31) in Benzonia.

Coorganizer, Tim Joseph of the Manistee County based Spirit of the Woods Music Association states, “We wish to create celebrations of Pete’s spirit, including music, spoken word, dance and art with an emphasis on participation, with ‘We, together,’ rather than “me, the performer, you, the audience. Content is anything that celebrates what Pete has given us: Pete’s songs; Songs you learned from Pete; Songs of peace and justice and the environment, Pete’s passionate concerns….”

If you are a performer wishing to participate in one or all of the concerts, please contact Tim Joseph at 231690-7746 or visit michiganfolklife.org, Partnering organizations include FLOW, Spirit of the Woods Music Association, Northwest Michigan Folklife Center, and Institute for Sustainable Living, Art and Natural Design (ISLAND).

Admission to the concerts are $10.00 per person. There is no charge for children. Proceeds from the concerts will go to FLOW. FLOW is the Great Lakes Basin’s only public trust policy and education 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our [their] mission is to advance public trust solutions to save the Great Lakes. Through its law and policy work, FLOW is raising public awareness about the public trust doctrine and its principles as a unifying framework to protect the commons and address the systemic threats to water, public lands, and the environment throughout the Great Lakes.

States FLOW Founder and long time advocate of the Great Lakes Jim Olson, “Pete Seeger stood for common people, our water commons, and peace. He did so through song and lyrics, simple, strong as a giant wave, gentle as a hymn or lullaby. It’s an honor for FLOW to benefit from the work of a community of friends like Tim Joseph and Gretchen Eichberger, and so many who share in what Pete Seeger sang out to us.”
